The Wallpaper Manufacturers Ltd. was established in 1899 and soon controlled 98% of UK wallpaper production and distribution. Known generally as the WPM, this firm employed most of the trade union members referred to in the National Union of Wallcoverings, Decorative and Allied Trades (MSS.39/W). The Wallpaper Manufacturers Ltd. became Reed Decorative Products Ltd in 1965. In 1983 Reed International Ltd divested itself of those paint and wallpaper activities acquired in 1965 and the Head Office of the WPM, where all the old records were stored, closed down. Samples of the old wallpaper were transferred to the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, and WPM records regarded as being of value were put into storage at Darwen. In 1985 the remaining wallpaper activities of Reed were sold to Borden Inc. In 1996 the wallpaper activities of Borden Inc. were sold to The Imperial Home Décor Group.

This collection is being re-released and thus is brand new not vintage. They are pre-trimmed and come in DOUBLE rolls only. A double roll is one uncut roll that measures 10 meters long by 54 centimeters wide (22" wide X 33' long) with a straight repeat match. Rolls are not pre-pasted and a standard vinyl paste is recommended for hanging.

Generally, reproduced patterns are added to our Historic Collection and made available for sale to the public. Currently, the collection includes over 300 patterns.
Our extensive collection of fine handprinted historic wallpaper reproductions contains patterns from the early 19th through the mid 20th century, both European and American. The bulk of our collection comes from American designs that were found from coast to coast, north and south, following the trail of settlers in the Midwest, Colorado, California and Alaska. Some of our papers are from the Civil War period, and we have a growing collection of unusual Anglo-Japanese designs. We have several wallpaper patterns from England and France that are exceptionally beautiful. We are also beginning to see increased interest in 20th century wallpaper from the 20s and 30s, as well as turn of the century.
The patterns in our Historic Wallpaper Collection are printed in their document colors; additional colorways are available when noted, as well as custom coloring.
We do not retire our historic wallpaper reproductions from the collection, since we feel that all of them are historically significant; all of them are available to order.
